Book Description:
These are the worst words Broden could hear from his big brother Landon—just one day after they battled alongside Slade’s Ifs and his army of forest beasts. Sure, the brothers had learned to work together to fight and capture the evil If Gage.  But, now, Slade has informed them that Gage has escaped! Fear and distrust have entered the boys’ world.  Why should they help Slade if he can’t keep control of his prisoners?  Will they be able to fight against a familiar foe?  Plus, Landon has more news… “Gage has magic.” What kind of magic? Will he use it against them? As the boys are drawn into yet more adventure with the Ifs, they find out just how powerful, and dangerous, Gage’s magic can be.

The Ifs Return is a second book in the series about two brothers Broden and Landon. For me I started the series backward and I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to read the first book, The Ifs by J.D. Pooker. But for those like me that started the series (by mistake of course 😉 ) or you though this looks good, looks interesting, no worries because The Ifs Return is easy to follow from the start. Now I’m not saying don’t read the first book, of course if you have a chance go for it! But again if like me, in the beginning of The Ifs Return you are getting a refresher, being caught up on the two brothers Broden and Landon and their first adventure.

In the beginning of the story we are taken through the morning, after the Boys wake up. We are first taken through the morning through Landon’s eye.  After reading through the morning through Landon’s eyes , it continues through the perspective of Broden. After reading about the same morning through two different perspectives…it became a little difficult to get through. As I got pass the morning described in the perspective of both Brandon and Landon, the book became more enjoyable and much easier to read. As the book progressed I found myself eager to find out what happens next.

The story shows how two brothers grew emotionally and mentally closer to one another. They each had their own flaws, and in their young lives they learn to better themselves, to help one another through the dilemma that they had gotten themselves into with the Ifs.
It was a lot to ask of children to fight a battle against the evil Ifs. Now with Gage, Slades brother has escaped and the children are shrunk they face a revengeful Gage. Now with magic, the children face fighting Gage on his terms, on the battleground with swords and armor. The children learn to grow and to depend on one another as they face their enemy.
A life Lesson is well taught in this action adventure book and well written by J.D. Pooker, I recommend for any young reader to sit and enjoy the Return of the Ifs.
